Meet John

With a mom who was a school teacher and a dad who was on the local school board, I grew up with public policy as dinner table conversation. My passion for public service came early thanks to the example my parents set that everyone can get involved to make their community better. I dove in head first and was even elected Mayor for A Day in 8th grade.
It all came full circle when I was sworn in as Mayor four years ago, with my wife and boys by my side.
Since then I’ve served our community as Student Body President at Florida State University, District 3 County Commissioner for 12 years, and now as Mayor. I’m committed to making Tallahassee a place we can all be proud of that works for everyone , that we can all be proud of, and that we’ll be proud for our children to inherit.

Why I'm Running

I ran for Mayor three and a half years ago to rebuild the public’s trust in our local government and bring our community together. We’ve cleaned up City Hall and passed the strongest ethics reform package ever. We’ve created thousands of good paying jobs. And we’ve improved our quality of life by expanding our award-winning parks system and ensuring that the services we provide are efficient and affordable.
We’ve accomplished a lot, but we’ve still got work to do. Some are trying to divide us for cheap political gain, but I know that we are stronger together than apart. And I know that the only way we can tackle the challenges before us is by giving everyone a seat at the table.

Together we can make Tallahassee better today than it was yesterday and better tomorrow than it is today.
